Mississippi blood supply at crucially low levels
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — According to reports from Mississippi Blood Services (MBS), statewide blood supply levels have reached critically low levels.
MBS is issuing a statewide urgent appeal for blood donors as the state’s blood supply has reached critically low levels, particularly for O-negative, O-positive, B-negative, and B-positive blood types. Hospitals across Mississippi rely on a steady supply of blood to treat trauma victims, surgical patients, cancer patients, and newborns requiring lifesaving transfusions. When blood inventories fall to critically low levels, patient care could be delayed.
Unlike many medical supplies, blood cannot be manufactured-it can only come fromvolunteer donors.
“O and B types are critically needed right now,” said Kasey Dickson, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for MBS. “We are asking the community to step forward during this urgent time. Patients across Mississippi are counting on donors to help replenish the supply.”
MBS encourages all eligible donors-especially those with O and B blood types-to donate as soon as possible.
