SENATOBIA, Miss.(VDN) — Kaitlyn Mitchell Melendez, a Vicksburg native, has been named the assistant cheerleader coach at Senatobia High School. The school announced the hire last week as it welcomed Melendez to its cheerleading staff.
“I’m really excited to start this journey because it’s always fun going back to your roots,” Melendez said.
Melendez is no stranger to cheerleading. She is a 2018 graduate of Warren Central High School, where she participated in both softball and cheerleading. At WC, Melendez was an All-American cheerleader where the Vikings won multiple awards at many camps.
”I’ve always had a passion for cheer and it was very fun in high school because being with the team and cheering for others was always great,“ she added.
She later attended Mississippi State University, graduating in 2023, and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in special education.
Melendez is in her first year teaching at SHS. She is also married to Coach Jacob Melendez.
The official football season will begin in the fall, when Melendez will be part of the Warriors’ cheerleading program.
