Port earns prestigious designation
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership (VWEDP) announced that the Mississippi River Inland Port Complex (MRIPC), a 1,238-acre industrial site currently under development, has been selected for inclusion in Canadian Pacific Kansas City’s (CPKC) Room to Grow Site Ready Program— further reinforcing its position as a premier destination for industrial investment.
As part of the program, MRIPC earned a Silver-level certification following a comprehensive evaluation by global engineering and construction firm Burns & McDonnell. The designation confirms that the site has completed extensive due diligence, helping to accelerate development timelines and reduce risk for prospective investors.
The CPKC Site Ready Program identifies high-quality, rail-served industrial sites across North America that are strategically positioned for growth. MRIPC’s inclusion reflects its strong infrastructure, development readiness, and ability to support large-scale industrial projects. Certified sites are recognized for their proximity to key markets and their capacity to facilitate efficient, streamlined development.
Through CPKC’s rail network, MRIPC offers direct connectivity across the United States, Mexico, and Canada, providing a significant logistical advantage for companies seeking integrated, multimodal transportation solutions.
This designation builds on the growing momentum surrounding the Mississippi River Inland Port Complex, which recently earned a REDI Sites Silver designation from the Site Selectors Guild. Together, these recognitions underscore MRIPC’s readiness to compete for major industrial projects and its role as a catalyst for economic growth in the region.
The Mississippi River Inland Port Complex is a collaborative initiative involving the State of Mississippi, the City of Vicksburg, Warren County, the Vicksburg Warren Economic Development Partnership, and Entergy Mississippi. The site is zoned for heavy industrial use and supported by robust utility infrastructure designed to meet the needs of modern industry.
Vicksburg’s Mayor, Willis Thompson, celebrated the milestone and stated, “Vicksburg continues to position itself as a city ready for the future, and the inclusion of the Mississippi River Inland Port Complex in Canadian Pacific Kansas City’s Site Ready Program is a strong validation of that progress. Our community is well prepared for large- scale industrial investment, supported by key strategic advantages including extensive rail connectivity across the United States, Mexico, and Canada; direct access to the Mississippi River and the Interstate system; and a robust supply of essential utilities, including power, water, sewer, and natural gas.
Warren County Board of Supervisors President Kelle Barfield added, “We are proud to see the port project gain the visibility it deserves and look forward to working closely with industry partners to help them locate, grow, and succeed in Warren County. We have been aware of the vast opportunities and attributes of this location for some time, and are pleased to receive these important endorsements of the site’s superiority.”
