City recognizes National Salvation Army Week
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The City of Vicksburg formally recognized National Salvation Army Week at the regular Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting held Friday, May 8.
The week of May 11-15 is National Salvation Army Week is dedicated to honoring the work of the organization in local communities across the country. It was declared by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1954, and since then it has served as an annual reminder of the vast scope of services the organization provides.
Vicksburg Mayor Willis Presented the proclamation to Service Center Assistant Manager Shannon Howard at the meeting.
Howard said she hopes the proclamation will help bring awareness of the organization to local residents. She said currently the Salvation Army is in the planning phase of the Summer Feeding Program and more specifics will be available soon.
