VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —
James Lewis, athletic director for the Vicksburg Warren School District, has been appointed vice president of the Mississippi Athletic Administrators’ Association for the 2026-27 school year.
In the statewide leadership role, Lewis will help support athletic administrators across Mississippi while working to advance the association’s mission of professional growth and excellence in educational athletics.
As vice president, Lewis will also play a key role in planning and facilitating the annual MAAA Conference, the organization’s premier professional development event for athletic administrators throughout the state.
The appointment comes after a historic year for athletics in the Vicksburg Warren School District. During the 2025-26 school year, VWSD programs captured a total of 13 state championships, one of the most successful athletic years in district history.

Under Lewis’ leadership, VWSD athletics has experienced sustained success both on and off the field, with student-athletes and coaches earning numerous state and regional honors while maintaining a strong commitment to educational-based athletics.
The Mississippi Athletic Administrators’ Association serves athletic directors and administrators across the state by providing professional development opportunities, leadership training and networking resources designed to enhance athletic programs and improve opportunities for student-athletes.
