Frank Crump, Jr. Educational Foundation announces scholarship recipients Ae’Ryl Jones and Landon Lumpkin for Mississippi State University.
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Frank Crump, Jr. Educational Foundation has named Ae’Ryl Jones and Landon Lumpkin as this year’s scholarship recipients. Both graduates will attend Mississippi State University in the fall.
“We are proud to support these two ambitious students. Their hard work and focus has prepared them for this moment, and we look forward to seeing all that they accomplish,” said Frank Crump, III, Financial Director, Frank Crump, Jr. Educational Foundation.
Ae’Ryl Jones will join the Mississippi State community as an elite scholar and graduate of River City Early College where she excelled academically, earning both her high school diploma and Associate degree in General Studies at Hinds Community College. Jones plans to major in Civil Engineering pursuing a specialized track in Construction Engineering.
“I knew I wanted to pursue construction because I always loved watching HGTV showcase how homes are built and what it takes to bring structures to life,” remarked Jones when discussing what sparked her passion for construction. This childhood exposure fostered her fascination with the practical execution and mechanics of translating schematics into final structures. Jones aims to leverage her educational and career achievements to inspire the next generation of Black women to pursue careers in civil engineering.
Landon Lumpkin, a dedicated three-sport student-athlete, in football, basketball and track, is also heading to Mississippi State in the fall. Managing the rigorous demands of multiple sports while maintaining high academic standards highlights his exceptional work ethic. Lumpkin is a proud graduate of Warren Central High School.
Lumpkin is focused on advancing his education in a field that aligns with his academic strengths, athletic background and desire to serve others. He is majoring in Kinesiology to stay connected to the world of sports and help others achieve optimal physical wellness. Lumpkin aspires to become a physical therapist.
“Ultimately, I hope to contribute meaningfully to my community and make a difference in the lives of others,” said Lumpkin. “With the support of my family, my experiences, and the opportunity provided by this scholarship, I am confident that I will be able to achieve my goals and make a positive impact in the world.”
Frank Crump, Jr. Next Generation Scholarship, named in honor of the late educator and civil rights activist, supports students who demonstrate strong academic achievement, leadership, and a commitment to community service. As part of the foundation’s legacy these recipients will also have the opportunity to mentor high school seniors in the next graduating class to guide them through the college admissions process.
Since 2014, the scholarship foundation has awarded 50 scholarships totaling $42,400, thanks to the generosity of its donors.
