VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Mississippi Tourism Association (MTA) has awarded Visit Vicksburg the Best Overall Digital Media of the Year award at its annual Tourism Awards Program, held during the Governor’s Confer- ence on Tourism at the Oxford Conferece Center, Oct. 6-8. The annual educational and professional development event brought together approximately 250 tourism industry professionals from across Mississippi, along with partners from the surrounding region.
The awards program gives MTA the opportunity to recognize members who excel in various sectors of the industry. Awards were presented in 24 categories, each highlighting a different aspect of the hospitality industry or individual achievement.
“The true measure of great tourism marketing is whether it inspires someone to take the next step and experience a destination for themselves. Visit Vicksburg has demonstrated how a thoughtful, integrated digital strategy can turn online engagement into measurable visitation and economic impact. By pairing compelling storytelling with a stra- tegic focus on the right audiences and markets, they are not only reaching potential visitors but encouraging them to stay longer, explore more and contribute more to the local economy. That illustrates digital marketing doing exactly what it should do for a destination,” said MTA Executive Director, Danielle Morgan.
This year’s Best Digital Traditional Media award is awarded to any member using digital media (Facebook, Insta- gram, Twitter, website, digital advertising campaign, podcast, etc) to promote a destination, attraction, property, event or campaign.
Visit Vicksburg revolutionized its regional footprint by deploying an aggressive strategy designed to transform digital inspiration into economic impact. The organization leveraged a fully integrated digital ecosystem—spanning high- impact paid media campaigns, interactive mobile optimization, and web-based storytelling — to promote Vicksburg as Mississippi’s premier historic and cultural destination. The ultimate success of Visit Vicksburg’s digital media portfolio lies in its ability to bridge the gap between online clicks and visitation, directly advancing the broader goals of the Mississippi tourism industry.
The campaign ’s success is further highlighted by correlating Visit Vicksburg’s efforts to increase visitation from longer-length of stay markets resulting in economic impact. They saw average length of stay increase from ten of their twelve target markets and a 15% increase in overnight visitors. By showcasing the authentic stories and experi- ences that make Vicksburg unique, the campaign strengthened the city’s tourism economy and reinforced its reputa- tion as an iconic Mississippi destination.
“We are pleased to recognize this year’s award winners and celebrate the individuals and organizations whose pas- sion and commitment continue to move Mississippi tourism forward. Their innovation, collaboration and dedication play an important role in strengthening our state’s fourth-largest industry while creating memorable experiences that showcase all Mississippi has to offer. These honorees represent the very best of our tourism community, and their work continues to raise the bar for excellence across our state,” said Paige Hunt, 2026-2027 President of MTA
