Three Vicksburg Police Department officers recently completed a weeklong Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) program aimed at strengthening their ability to respond to individuals experiencing mental health crises.

Lt. Anthony Lane, Sgt. Latridia Chambers and Officer Steven Reagan successfully completed the training, which was held in partnership with River Ridge Behavioral Health and United Way of West Central Mississippi.

The training brought together law enforcement officers from agencies across central Mississippi to improve their skills in recognizing, responding to and de-escalating crisis situations, particularly those involving individuals facing mental health challenges.

The program also emphasized the importance of compassion, understanding and knowing how to properly assist individuals during difficult situations.

The Vicksburg Police Department congratulated all three officers for their commitment to continuing their education, professional growth and providing quality service to the citizens of Vicksburg.

The department also thanked River Ridge Behavioral Health, United Way of West Central Mississippi and everyone involved in making the training possible.
