VICKSBURG, MS. – Four bands, two from Vicksburg and two from the Gulf Coast, will play tonight at the BB Club in downtown Vicksburg starting at 7 p.m. The Gulf Coast bands on tonight’s bill are Skulldozer (Death metal) and Dread (southern groove/thrash metal).

Vicksburg locals Beneath the Kudzu and Chief City, recently included in a Weedian compilation featuring sludge and doom bands from Mississippi and Alabama, will be the two local offerings. Of the seven bands from Mississippi featured on the compilation, three are from Vicksburg, the other being Death Throes from a Star.

Beneath the Kudzu (melodic doom) consists of Brandon Bishop, Trey Shamburger, Josh Harrison, and Bobby Davis. Chief City (sludge/stoner doom) is comprised of Jordan Wilson, Jena Moulder, Adam Rogan and Brandon Bishop.

“I’m really stoked for tonight. Skulldozer and DREAD are some extremely heavy hitters we are excited to share the stage with, Chief City has a new song to debut, and Beneath the Kudzu will play 6 of the 7 songs from our upcoming album.” said Brandon Bishop, who will have double duty tonight: as the bassist for Beneath the Kudzu and guitar player for Chief City.

Built in 1916 as a high-profile event venue for the Jewish community in the region, the B’nai B’rith Literary Club, or BB Club as it is popularly known, has served several purposes since its opening, including being home of the Vicksburg Police Department. Over the past two years, the BB Club has become a beacon for the local underground music scene, with bands from as far as New York having recently taken the stage there. The sets are typically thirty to forty minute of all original music and the bands share the door charge, with the local bands always giving the lion’s share to the traveling bands.

“The BB Club always looks forward to the original live music shows,” said Derek Howard, BB Club Co-owner.

This is an all ages show. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m. Triple J’s Pizza Tacos will be onsite outside of the show. The BB Club is located at 721 Clay St.
