Weedian Compilation feature three Vicksburg bands
VICKSBURG, Miss. – Weedian’s 38th compilation “Trip to Mississippi and Alabama” feature bands from both Mississippi and Alabama on the sprawling 28 track album. Of the seven bands featured from Mississippi, three are from Vicksburg: Beneath the Kudzu, Chief City, and Death Throes from a Star.
Weedian promotes the doom/stoner genre through compilations featuring bands from across the globe.
Beneath The Kudzu – Snakes of War
“We got contacted in May by them (Weedian) asking for a song to put on their trip to Mississippi compilation coming up. We decided to put an unreleased track, Snakes of War, from our studio recording we did earlier this year,” said Josh Harrison, drummer for Beneath the Kudzu, “We previously released that song on our 2 song demo, but wanted to use a better version and also something that has been released already to keep the rest of the album under wraps while we finish it.”
Beneath The Kudzu is a melodic doom metal band comprised of: Josh Harrison on drums, Bobby Davis and Trey Shamburger on Guitar, and Brandon Bishop on Bass, all pulling from very different musical influences. Originally intending to be an instrumental project, the four piece slowly began adding lyrics and sharing vocal duties.
“We started to incorporate vocals and decided it was best for us to have multiple people doing the them. So, Bobby, Brandon, and I started trying things out and I believe that’s when we really found our ‘sound’,” said Harrison.
Chief City – A Few Bullets More
Chief City is a sludgy, stoner doom band from Vicksburg started in late 2017, consisting of: Jordan Wilson on vocals and guitar, Brandon Bishop on lead guitar, Jena Moulder on bass, and Adam Rogan on drums.
“Adam (Rogan) and I had some extra time in the jam room from our other bands back then and decided to switch instruments and start something new,” said Jordan Wilson, singer and guitarist for Chief City, “He went to drums from guitar, and I went to guitar from bass, first time either of us had tried those instruments in a band.
Brandon Bishop, bassist for Beneath the Kudzu, helped the band get our first few shows in town. When the band had an opening for a lead guitarist, he was ready for it. Jena (Moulder) is the most recent member, on bass, which seemed a natural fit.
“Everyone bringing their influences to the table has helped us find our unique sound and it’s still evolving, ” said Wilson.
Death Throes from a Star – Ascension
Death Throes From A Star is an instrumental doom/gaze band formed in 2017 in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The band is made up of Palmer Shiers on guitar, Jordan Wilson on bass, and Adam Rogan on drums. The band is known for it’s lengthy, reverb drenched, instrumental arrangements and uncompromisingly LOUD live sets.
“Ascension is the second song we wrote, and it’s definitely one of our favorites. We pitched this one to Weedian because we feel it showcases the full dynamics within the band,” said Palmer Shiers, “We are honored to be among such amazing artists on this compilation, and to be alongside our brothers in Chief City and Beneath the Kudzu is just the icing on the cake. Thank you Weedian!”
Beneath the Kudzu and Chief City will play the BB Club on August 31 with guests Skulldozer and Dread. Tickets are $10, available at the door.
