Candidates Massey, Monsour, and Flaggs have yet to be interviewed by VDN

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Municipal candidates for office, Kasman Massey, Alex Monsour, and George Flaggs all have yet to be interviewed by the Vicksburg Daily News.
On May 21, 2025, all five candidates for Municipal office were contacted to set up an interview with the Vicksburg Daily News. Each election cycle, the Vicksburg Daily News set up interviews or a debate for the candidates. This cycle, we decided to conduct interviews with the candidates. They are asked the same questions, and their responses are presented, unedited, to the public. Candidate Willis Thompson replied immediately, and candidate Vickie Bailey responded shortly thereafter. Both have since been interviewed.
Alderman Alex Monsour has avoided being interviewed by the Vicksburg Daily News for some time. He claims to be too busy. Mayor George Flaggs did not acknowledge the request to be interviewed, but sent other messages in the same text stream. Kasman Massey said she had a scheduling conflict and was unable, to date, to provide any update on scheduling the interview.
We’re going to do our job regardless
The Vicksburg Daily News has established a reputation for holding elected officials accountable. We work for you, the people, taxpayers, and voters of Vicksburg and Warren County. We take our responsibility seriously and work to be fair with everyone. This has made us unpopular with some people in the community who are accustomed to controlling things with their money, power, and influence. People in those cliques are used to controlling politicians and getting their way. It is one of the main reasons Vicksburg has struggled to reach its potential for the past 150 years.
In the past, we have asked the hard questions, for example, this interview with Mayor Flaggs was conducted in August of 2024. That interview, with over 44,000 views, shows Mayor Flaggs being asked tough questions about Vicksburg. In that interview, he claims the census was wrong about our declining population and made controversial comments about our crime problem. He was also concerned to discover that over 60 people, at that time, had been murdered in Vicksburg since he was first elected in 2013.
Despite promises to do an interview, Alderman Alex Monsour has cowered away from the VDN cameras for some time. In August of 2024, Alderman Alex Monsour looked at the VDN camera and promised to do a live interview, but he has yet to follow through on his promise. You can see him promise to set up an interview at about the 7:30 mark. While Alderman Monsour clearly and decisively promised to do an interview, he has remained too busy to face our cameras. He promised one thing, and to date, has done another.
It is unknown to the Vicksburg Daily News if Mayoral candidate Kasman Massey is aware that by failing to schedule the interview, she is doing the same thing as career politicians Alex Monsour and George Flaggs.
It’s not too late, Kasman, Alex and George
The Vicksburg Daily News would like to publicly extend the opportunity for Massey, Monsour, and Flaggs to be interviewed for the benefit of the voters. Kasman Massey, Alex Monsour, George Flaggs, Jr, we will give you until 3 p.m. on Monday, June 2, 2025, to contact us and conduct the interview.
