Cleophus Brown, 2/13/45 – 12/5/23

Cleophus Brown, Jr., affectionately known as “Babro,” was born February 13, 1945, in Vicksburg, Mississippi, to the late Cleophus Brown, Sr., and Ida Watts.

During the early years of his life, he attended Rosa A. Temple High School and graduated with the Class of 1964. Cleophus also was a member of Clover Valley Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and sang in the choir.

Cleophus married the love of his life, Ethel Kennedy, and they recently celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary on September 4, 2023.

Babro retired from Cooper Lighting on April 9, 2007, after serving 19 years as a heavy machinist mechanic. After retirement, he enjoyed cutting grass, watching high school and college football, and fish fries outside of his “chill-out” house with family and friends.

On Tuesday, December 5, 2023, he departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cleophus Brown, Sr., and Ida Watts; one daughter, Marcella Elaine Dixon; one son, Nuri Tandy; two sisters Ida Brooks and Elmarie Upshire; and three brothers Fred Prentiss, Ed Watts, and Albert Prentiss.

Fond memories will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Ethel Brown; four sons, Alvin Wilson of Council Bluff, IA, Don (Renee) Brown of Mount Vernon, IL, Demetris Brown, Sr., of Dallas, TX, and Micah Shelton of St. Louis, MO; seven daughters, Kendra and Ieshia Matthews of St. Louis, MO, Ebony (Lorenzo) Smith, Kimberly and Veronica Bolls of Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Bridgette (Darrell) Hailey and Pamela Bolls of Houston TX; four brothers, Anthony Dale Brown of Dallas, TX, James Brown, Frank (Wanda) Brown, and Elastic (Shirley) Brown, all of Vicksburg, MS; seven sisters, Barbara Davis and Alice Conley of St. Louis, MO, Barbara Griffin of Natchez, MS, Inetta Miller, Christine Thomas, Delores Floyd, and Felicia (Joseph) Johnson, all of Vicksburg, MS; dear stepmother, Bobbie Chambers of Vicksburg, MS; and adoring grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Cleophus Brown, Jr on December 16, 2023, 11:00 AM at Greater Grove Street M. B. Church, 2715 Alcorn Dr., Vicksburg, MS.

Visitation will be held at C J Williams Mortuary Services, 4310 Halls Ferry Road, Vicksburg, MS on December 15, 2023 from 1 – 3 PM with family present from 4 – 6 PM at Clover Valley M B Church, 7670 MS-27, Vicksburg, MS.
