David Wayne Phelps: 1955-2025

VICKSBURG, Miss. — David Wayne Phelps passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. He was 69 years old.
Wayne was a cowboy who loved showing, riding, and taking care of horses. A carpenter by trade and born on Christmas day he found joy and happiness in sharing those two things with his Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a loving husband and father and grandfather to his wife Stephanie, two sons Cody Phelps and Nathan Phelps and three grandchildren Dela Wrynn Phelps, Jett Phelps and Sully Phelps. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Henry Phelps and Katherine Monty Phelps and brother Robert Cecil. He is also survived by his brothers James Edward Phelps and Leroy Dudley Phelps (Patty), a sister Willie Mae Canton and a sister-in-law Kathleen Phelps.
He was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday School Class and lead the music. Wayne loved to hunt and fish and felt closest to the Lord while being in the woods. He was never afraid of hard work and if there was a job to be done it was going to get done right. He loved helping and doing for others. And one of his favorite things to do for them was cook crawfish. To him, there was only one type of music. Rock and Roll Man! He was one of a kind and made impressions on everyone he met and to two boys. He was one hell of an amazing daddy. The best in the world.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Chapel Hill Baptist Church at 11:30 a.m. A visitation will start at 10 a.m. at the church. there will be dinner served for family and friends following the service.
