Disabled Youth event set for Saturday
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — March is developmental disabilities month and I Can Fly Ministries is extending an invitation to an exciting event: the launch of the Bridge Club.
The event kicks off with Play Pals on Saturday, March 14 beginning at 3 p.m. in downtown Vicksburg. This will be a consistent safe space for our community to bridge the gap with our disabled youth.
The event will celebrate the families which come with an indoor carnival, vendors, dance party, book signings, support group information, future events, & more! Families in the community will also have the opportunity to sign their children up to be play pals on the second Saturday of each month with the disabled youth to bridge the gap.
This event will feature a documentary and book signing for author Lylie Grace Reed, 5. Reed has authored a book titled, Inspired by a Pound. The book includes her disability journey, artwork, and tributes.
Educator Ms. Glenda Warner and several youth autistic authors under her teaching will showcase their book, “In a World All Our Own,” to educate many of their journey and talents.
Experienced children’s author Michelle Myricks, “The Catfish Address,” will be there to help all the new youth authors in the community.
The average disabled child spends countless hours in therapy weekly learning how to function, interact, and excel in life. The average special needs family is exhausted, overwhelmed, and just needs encouragement. This uplifting space will come through many small events such as play pals eating at Baskin Robbin’s with them, throwing a football, dancing with them, and more.
The community is invited. For more information, please contact Courtney or Kay Reed, (601) 218-1354.
