VICKSBURG, Miss. — The Vicksburg Fire Department responded to a house fire on Ken Karl Ave. Wednesday afternoon where five children ages 16-3 escaped unharmed.

At approximately 4:19 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, the Vicksburg Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire at 2612 Ken Karl Ave, with reports of individuals trapped inside the mobile home.

“Upon arrival, the firefighters discovered that all occupants (five in total aging around 16 to 3) had successfully escaped the mobile home,” said Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps. “Fire crews quickly assessed the situation and launched an aggressive exterior attack on the fire. They navigated around a hazardous downed power line, adding an extra risk layer as they worked diligently to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby properties. Their determined efforts were crucial in extinguishing the fire and ensuring the safety of the surrounding area.”

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and is under investigation.
