VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The City of Vicksburg passes a proclamation recognizing Taquelia Pendleton for her work to raise awareness for domestic violence at the regular meeting held Monday, Oct. 19.
Pendleton’s organization, Broken Silence AVU, was organized to advocate for victims and survivors of domestic violence. Through her work, Pendleton has helped encourage and support victims of domestic violence.
She has helped organize the Purple Parade Walk which is held annually in downtown Vicksburg. This year marks the third year for the event.
The parade is held each year in October in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month which was officially established by Congress in 1989.
Pendleton addressed the Board at the Monday meeting when she both thanked the Board and said as a survivor of domestic violence she just wanted to help others know they could survive as well.
