Flaggs hosts crawfish campaign event in spite of soggy Saturday

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Rainy weather didn’t stop supporters of Mayor George Flaggs Jr. from turning out for his re-election campaign event Saturday at River City Cigar and Brew on South Frontage Road.
“That’s what you do,” Flaggs said. “You improvise.”
Despite the weather, the event was well attended, including more than 150 to-go plates of crawfish distributed to drive-by visitors, according to Flaggs, who greeted guests as they drove through.
“It was a great day for Vicksburg, and what we’re doing is just trying to motivate folks and encourage people,” Flaggs said. “We need to stay in office, and we need to continue to do what we’re doing. We have a pathway to the future, and that’s where we’re at.”
Flaggs, who is seeking a fourth term as mayor, said his administration remains focused on public safety, job creation, housing, and eliminating blight.
“We just believe in Vicksburg, and we want to be able to come back and create more jobs, more housing, and eliminate the blight—and take care of public safety,” he said. “It’s got to be done, and it’s gonna be done.”
Flaggs said he is planning a larger public campaign event on June 1 at the Vicksburg Pavilion as part of his re-election bid.
