VICKSBURG, Miss. – The Strand Theatre will offer free popcorn at 7 pm. this Saturday. They will also have a showing of Once Upon a Time in the West at the same time.

After The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, Sergio Leone thought he was through with westerns. Luckily for us, that was not the case.

In 1969 Sergio Leone, Ennio Morricone, Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda, Jason Robard, Claudia Cardinale and the beauty of Monument Valley all came together to accomplish the masterpiece that is Once Upon a Time in the West.

Set to the sometimes quirky, often beautiful music of Ennio Morricone, a tale of greed and revenge plays out in the American Southwest. In the middle of the desert a beautiful widow has just inherited a key piece of real estate needed to complete the railroad from coast to coast. As she is pressured to sell cheap by Frank, one of the West’s most ruthless villains (played by Henry Fonda); an unlikely ally appears: a man with a harmonica (Charles Bronson). It seems he has unfinished business with Frank.

The Strand ran this one a few years ago, but the movie has re-released in 4k for its 50th anniversary. It looks and sounds better than ever.

The theatre will showcase the blues documentary A Life in Blues featuring Super Chikan tonight.

Advance tickets are available for $9 at Highway 61 Coffeehouse. Tickets at the door will be $10.
Popcorn is free.
