Oak Ridge Boys, Dru Hill to play this year’s state fair
JACKSON, Miss. – Mississippi Ag Commissioner Andy Gipson has unveiled the headliners for the 2024 Mississippi State Fair, scheduled for Thursday, October 3, through Sunday, October 13, at the Mississippi State Fairgrounds in Jackson.
Here’s the performers for each night:
Oak Ridge Boys – Saturday, October 5
The Oak Ridge Boys, originally a gospel quartet, switched their focus to country music in the mid-1970s. Subsequently, they released a string of hit albums and singles that lasted into the early 1990s. Their discography comprises thirty-one studio albums and fifty-six singles. Notably, their highest-selling album is 1981’s Fancy Free, which is certified double-platinum.
Matthew West – Sunday, October 6
Matthew West is a five-time GRAMMY® nominee, NSAI’s 2022 Songwriter-Artist of the Year, ASCAP’s 2023 Golden Note Award recipient, as well as a multiple ASCAP Christian Music Songwriter/Artist of the Year winner.
Ronnie McDowell – Wednesday, October 9 (Senior American Day)
Ronnie McDowell is an American country music artist known most notably for 1977’s “The King Is Gone.” His discography consists of 23 studio albums and 51 singles. Of his 51 singles, 34 charted on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs charts between 1977 and 1990. McDowell also has two songs that cracked the Hot 100.
Dru Hill – Friday, October 11
Dru Hill recorded seven top 40 hits, and is best known for the R&B number-one hits “In My Bed”, “Never Make a Promise” and “How Deep Is Your Love”. Its original members were lead singer Mark “Sisqó” Andrews, Tamir “Nokio” Ruffin, Larry “Jazz” Anthony and James “Woody” Green. The group achieved popularity in the mid 1990s.
