Gators finish runner-up, Missy Gators take third at regional powerlifting meet
FLORENCE, Miss.(VDN) — The Vicksburg High School boys powerlifting team earned a runner-up finish in Region 2-5A competition, while the VHS girls placed third at the district meet held at Florence High School.
DeCorey Knight Sr. serves as head coach of the boys program. The girls team is led by head coach Andre Bennett and assistant Tracey Brown.
Several Gators and Missy Gators turned in top performances in their respective weight classes, and each of them qualified for the North State Championship.
Boys results
- Derrick Davis — 148 class, third place, total lift of 790 pounds.
- Deitrich Stewart — 161 class, regional champion, 1,055 pounds.
- LeAndrew Drake — 181 class, regional champion, 1,405 pounds.
- TeJay McKinney — 181 class, third place, 1,085 pounds.
- Ja’varius Bridges — 275 class, third place, 1,090 pounds.
- Karter Thomas — 308+ class, regional champion, 1,460 pounds.
- Corey Wilkerson — 308+ class, second place, 1,090 pounds.
Girls results
- Jakeyla Curry — 137 class, second place, 480 pounds.
- Kaitlyn Wallace — 165 class, regional champion, 370 pounds.
- Cedrionna Blackmore — 220 class, regional champion, 715 pounds.
- Madyson Brown — 242 class, second place, 480 pounds.
- Rhania Sylvester — 242 class, third place, 465 pounds.
All of the listed lifters advanced to compete in the North State Championship at the next meet.
