VICKSBURG, Miss.(VDN)—The Gumbo Pot, located on Halls Ferry Road, announced Saturday afternoon on Facebook that it has permanently closed its doors.

Cherished for its comforting Southern cuisine and welcoming atmosphere, The Gumbo Pot was a staple in the Vicksburg community. From crawfish and steaks to burgers and smothered pork chops, the menu offered something for everyone. Locals especially loved the chicken and dressing, mashed potatoes, black-eyed peas, mac and cheese, sautéed zucchini and squash, and the restaurant’s creamy homemade chicken noodle soup. Cornbread, a full salad bar, desserts, and sweet tea completed the down-home dining experience.

Over the years, The Gumbo Pot became a holiday tradition for many families, offering special Thanksgiving and Christmas menus. Dishes like Cajun seafood stuffing, smoked and fried turkeys, Boston butts, glazed hams, and a rich white chocolate bread pudding were eagerly anticipated each season.

News of the closure prompted an outpouring of heartfelt messages and memories from loyal patrons. Many expressed sadness over the loss of a cherished community spot, calling it the end of an era for local dining in Vicksburg.

At this time there is no official word on why the restaurant decided to close its doors. Vicksburg Daily News will add additional details once they become available.
