Mass Shooting at Fayette Fest leaves one dead and multiple injured

FAYETTE, Miss.(VDN) — A mass shooting at Saturday’s Fayette Fest left one person dead and six others injured, casting a shadow over what was meant to be a celebration of the town’s 200-year history.
The annual event, held about 40 miles south of Vicksburg, drew hundreds of residents and visitors. Multiple Facebook users posted videos from the scene, one of which captured the sound of rapid gunfire as people scrambled to safety.
Late Saturday night, Fayette Mayor Londell Eanochs posted a brief but emotional message on social media: “This is it!!!” His comment appeared to reflect deep frustration and grief in the aftermath of the violence.
On Sunday morning, Jefferson County Sheriff James Bailey Sr. turned to Facebook to ask the public for help in identifying those responsible.
“To the citizens of Jefferson County and surrounding areas, due to the terrible events that occurred during Fayette Fest, we are requesting your assistance,” Bailey wrote. “If you have any information in regard to this mass shooting involving six victims, some critical, and one fatality, please come forward.”
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Fayette Police Department at 601-786-3333, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department at 601-786-3403, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation in Brookhaven at 601-515-4340, or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-442-5001.
“We don’t want your name — we just want your information,” Bailey added. “Please keep all victims and their families in your prayers. Thank you.”
