Howard named NJCAA Gulf B Coach of the Year

SPARTANBURG, South Carolina. – Copiah-Lincoln Community College Head Softball Coach Meleah Howard was named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Gulf B Coach of the Year. The award was presented at the NJCAA Division II National Softball Tournament in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Howard led her 2024 Lady Wolves to their first Mississippi Association of Community College Conference Championship finishing with a 28-2 conference record. The Lady Wolves (47-7 overall) earned their second automatic bid to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament where they finished fourth.

In her six seasons at the helm of the Lady Wolves, Howard has amassed a 212-56 record. She earned her 200th career win on April 20 against East Mississippi.

In 2023, Howard led the Lady Wolves to their first Region 23 Championship since the 2008 season and then won the first National Championship in school history at the NJCAA Division II World Series. She was named NJCAA Coach of the Year.

In 2022, the Lady Wolves earned a 42-10 overall and 23-5 in MACCC play while winning the first 18 straight against conference foes. The Lady Wolves also earned the first number one ranking in program history during the 2022 season. The team also won the first MACCC State Championship in 13 years which also earned them the right to host the NJCAA Region 23 Softball Tournament for the first time since 2012. Howard also earned MACCC Coach of the Year honors for the 2022 season and also celebrated her 100th Co-Lin career win with a 9-1 victory over Meridian.  Howard became the fastest among active MACCC Softball coaches to reach the mark needing just 131 games and had a 100-31 record in that span.

She and her husband, Marc, are the parents of two sons, Jack and Hayes and a daughter Audrey.
