Man killed his mom and sisters on Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day turned into a tragedy on Sunday when a man killed his mother and two sisters in Ridgeland.
Investigators received a call on Sunday and conducted a welfare check at a home on Old Canton Road where they discovered three deceased adults in the living room. The three victims were identified as Ida Thomas Welch, 76; Vicky Renee Welch, 56; and Crystal Lynn Welch, 42.
Ivory James Welch III, the son of Ida Welch, quickly became the suspect but his name wasn’t immediately released as he already left the scene. While the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was searching for Ivory, he was spotted by an Arizona State Trooper around Safford, west of the New Mexico line.
Welch then opened fire on the trooper who returned fire and killed Welch. No law enforcement was injured in the shooting.
One of Ivory’s victims, Crystal Welch, was an associate clinical professor at the Mississippi College School of Law.
