St. Aloysius falls to Madison St. Joe in heartbreaking 34-27 loss

MADISON, Miss. (VDN)St. Aloysius High School suffered a heartbreaking 34-27 loss to Madison St. Joseph on Thursday night, falling in the final seconds of a back-and-forth matchup. The loss dropped the Flashes to 4-6 on the season as they await the results of Friday’s games to determine their playoff fate.

Madison St. Joe struck first in the opening quarter when Sy McBeath scored on a 4-yard touchdown run to give the Bruins a 7-0 lead. St. Al responded with a strong drive that included a 17-yard run from Cole Nolan and a first-down pass from quarterback Sadler Lambiotte to Walt Andrews. The Flashes settled for a 29-yard field goal by Carter Smithhart to cut the deficit to 7-3.

The Bruins added two more scores before halftime — one on a 3-yard touchdown pass and another on McBeath’s 13-yard run. St. Al kept pace as Nolan ran in a 1-yard touchdown and Lambiotte connected with Andrews for a 20-yard score, narrowing the gap to 21-17 at the break.

In the third quarter, the Flashes took their first lead when Lambiotte hit Emerson Blackburn for a 20-yard touchdown pass to go ahead 24-21. McBeath quickly answered with another short touchdown run to put St. Joe back in front, 27-24. Smithhart then tied the game with his second field goal of the night.

However, McBeath delivered the decisive blow late in the game with a 60-yard touchdown run to give the Bruins a 34-27 lead. On the final drive, Lambiotte’s pass was intercepted in the red zone, sealing the Flashes’ defeat.

Lambiotte finished with 163 passing yards and two touchdowns, while Nolan led the rushing attack with 92 yards and one score.
