There was Another Shooting Sunday Morning
There was another shooting in Vicksburg on Sunday Morning.
Area residents report yet another shooting took place in Vicksburg on Sunday morning. The Vicksburg Daily News received two separate reports from community members. According to both sources, the shooting took place on Martha Street near Harrison just after 6:30 a.m. on Sunday. Both also report they heard 15-20 shots.
Several Vicksburg Police squad cars responded to the call. However, the Vicksburg Police Department or Mayor George Flaggs have not released a public report so far.
The shooting took place at 6:30 a.m. on a Sunday in Vicksburg, just hours after this one.
Monsour Too Busy to do an Interview
In July 2024, Alderman Alex Monsour declared himself “too busy” to meet with the Vicksburg Daily News. To date, he has remained “too busy” to meet for a sit-down on-camera interview. If you saw the one we did with the Mayor, you can understand if he is afraid of facing the truth.
You really should watch the interview we did with the Mayor. Watch it now.
Citizens Trust VDN to Report the News
In October 2023, the Vicksburg Police Department, under Police Commissioner George Flaggs, decided to silence the police radio channels citizens could hear. This led to Mayor Flaggs saying at a BOMA meeting, “Well, crime is down,” just three weeks later. Crime was not down, but Flaggs’ statement was not unexpected. He believes Vicksburg doesn’t have a crime problem. The problem is reporting crime. He might lose a vote or two if it makes him look bad.
In place of the police radio traffic, the VPD publishes a weekly report of arrests and incidents. However, the report is seldom accurate, and only a portion of known incidents are included.
Since Mayor Flaggs took office, 61 people have been murdered in Vicksburg. The population of Vicksburg has decreased by 25% since 2003, 17% of that since Flaggs took office. Flaggs has repeatedly said he would not increase pay for our first responders. Flaggs said people who do that kind of work do it as a passion; they don’t care about money. Oddly, crime continued to rise and Chief Jones continued to struggle to staff her department.
After repeatedly making those foolish and self-serving statements for 11 years, Flaggs admitted he was wrong in a town hall meeting in 2024. During those 11 years, 60 people were murdered in Vicksburg.
We’ve lost count of the number of shootings in the past 90 days
Countless shootings have occurred over the past 90 days in Vicksburg. Vicksburg is currently facing historic population loss under Flaggs and Monsour. Crime is the highest it has ever been. Citizens are fleeing the city because they don’t feel safe.
The only statistic that is down is the number of times the VPD/Flaggs/Monsour report crime.
