A vehicle that fled from the Vicksburg Police last night was spotted early this morning in Lake Park.

The vehicle is a newer model silver Honda Civic with Louisiana plates and significant damage to the front end. The Civic, driven by a slender white male, fled from Traffic 1, Bobby Jones after Jones attempted to stop the vehicle. It failed to yield to the marked unit with lights and sirens. At some point, the Civic crossed over the I-20 bridge on Halls Ferry and fled down Fisher Ferry into the county. As it fled into the county on Fisher Ferry, Jones lost sight of the vehicle but was able to get the license plate number that came back to a Louisiana residence.

The Civic crashed through construction barricades causing damage to the front of the vehicle along with flattening two tires.

This morning around 7:45 a.m., a resident of Lake Park, T. Claude Parker, saw the vehicle parked on Lake Side Drive, “I thought he was up to no good,” said Parker. Parker alerted law enforcement. Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area but were unable to find the vehicle. Based on that search it is believed the vehicle is no longer in the area and there is no threat to the community.

A report on social media said shots were fired at some point during the chase. Vicksburg Police Chief Penny Jones stated this morning via text messaging that there were no shots fired during the chase. However, the vehicle blew out two tires which may be what the witnesses heard.

The Vicksburg Daily News will update this story as more information becomes available.
