Port Gibson improves to 2-0 with win over Jim Hill

PORT GIBSON, Miss. (VDN)Port Gibson High School is off to its best start in nearly a decade. The Blue Waves improved to 2-0 for the first time since the 2016-17 season after defeating Jim Hill 18-14 on Friday night.

Quarterback Kimontae Crutison opened the scoring with a long first-quarter touchdown run, breaking free for nearly 80 yards to put the Blue Waves ahead. In the third quarter, Jakyrun Barnes forced a fumble that Jesse Williams scooped up and returned 60 yards for a touchdown to extend the lead.

Jim Hill rallied late, taking a 14-12 advantage with just under four minutes remaining. Port Gibson answered immediately, as Crutison connected with Antoine Walker Jr. on a 35-yard touchdown pass to regain the lead for good. Joseph Porter sealed the victory with an interception in the closing minutes.

Crutison finished with 110 rushing yards and 105 passing yards. On defense, LeQuentin Reynolds led Port Gibson with 13 tackles, followed by Barnes with 12 and D’Elljai Smith with 10. The Blue Waves’ defense also held Jim Hill scoreless in the first half.
