For his birthday screening, John Martin has chosen “Angels in the Outfield” to sponsor.

According to Martin, “…’Angels in the Outfield’ is a 1951 sports comedy film directed by Clarence Brown. The film stars Paul Douglas and a young Janet Leigh, and is centered around the real-life Pittsburgh Pirates baseball team.

Much of “Angels in the Outfield” was shot on location in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where the story takes place. Most of the baseball scenes were shot at Forbes Field, the former home of the Pittsburgh Pirates (as well as the football team the Pittsburgh Steelers). A number of trademark features of Forbes Field are visible in the film, including the Barney Dreyfuss monument and the “Kiner’s Korner” fence in the left field.

Advance tickets will be $9 at Highway 61 Coffeehouse or $10 at the door. But, of course, the popcorn is free.

Join The Strand at 7 p.m. for showtime and enjoy an old fashioned feel good movie.

The Strand Theatre is located at 717 Clay Street in downtown Vicksburg.
