VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN)Vicksburg High School improved to 3-2 on the season Friday night with a 34-12 victory over Yazoo City, snapping a two-game losing streak behind a dominant second-half performance.

Yazoo City opened the scoring when Maurice Booker returned a fumble for a touchdown to make it 6-0. Vicksburg answered on the next possession as Nick Carson scored on an 11-yard run. The extra point was blocked, leaving the score tied at 6-6.

The game remained even until just before halftime when Jadarius Henderson broke through for a 14-yard touchdown run. Abel Gonzalez converted the extra point to give the Gators a 13-6 lead.

Coming out of the break, Jermaine Gaines Jr. made up for his earlier mistake as he broke out on a 55-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Jamikal Maxey then connected with Daquan Warfield on the two-point conversion to extend the lead to 21-6.

Yazoo City responded a few plays later with a short touchdown run by Marquez Green, cutting the deficit to 21-12.

Before the fourth quarter, Henderson added his second score of the night on a short run to push the lead to 27-12.

Midway through the final period, Maxey hit Warfield on a 25-yard pass to set up another scoring drive. Henderson capped it off with an 11-yard touchdown run, and Gonzalez’s kick sealed the 34-12 victory.

The Gators will celebrate homecoming next week when they host Florence (2-3).
