Vikings took a 32-24 loss to Madison Central
MADISON, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central took a loss on Friday night, falling 32-24 to Madison Central High School.
Madison Central struck first when quarterback Triston Smith connected with Tylan Hutchins for a 45-yard touchdown at the 8:33 mark of the first quarter to take a 7-0 lead. Warren Central answered midway through the period as Nash Morgan capped a drive with a 2-yard touchdown run to tie it 7-7. Jonah Artman kicked the successful extra point.
The Jaguars regained the lead late in the first quarter on a 29-yard field goal by Ross Beavers to make it 10-7. Smith also threw an 11-yard touchdown and the Jaguars got a successful two-point conversion in the second quarter to make it 18-7.
Warren Central responded before halftime with a 47-yard touchdown run from Morgan to cut the deficit to 18-14.
The Vikings briefly took control in the fourth quarter. Javid Scott plunged in from 1 yard out to put Warren Central ahead 21-18, and Artman’s 32-yard field goal extended the lead to 24-18.
But Madison Central answered quickly. Smith hit Elijah Dampier for a 25-yard touchdown pass and the extra point put the Jaguars back on top, 25-24. After forcing a turnover, Madison Central added a 32-yard pick-six by Jeffrey Flanagan with just seconds remaining, sealing the 32-24 win.
Warren Central (3-2) will open up district play on October 10 when they host Ridgeland.
