Vikings improve to 5-0 after 42-21 win over Madison Central

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) —

Warren Central High School remained unbeaten Friday night with a 42-21 win over Madison Central, using several explosive plays to pull away in the second half.

The Vikings struck first when quarterback Nash Morgan broke loose for a 68-yard touchdown run with 8:52 remaining in the first quarter. Nick Lee added the extra point to give Warren Central a 7-0 lead.

Madison Central answered later in the quarter with an 8-yard touchdown pass to tie the game at 7 with 3:37 remaining.

Warren Central regained the lead in the second quarter when Javid Scott powered his way into the end zone on a 5-yard touchdown run. Lee’s extra point gave the Vikings a 14-7 advantage with 4:26 left before halftime.

The Vikings began to create separation in the third quarter.

Morgan broke free again, this time scoring on a 40-yard touchdown run with 8:27 remaining. Lee’s extra point pushed Warren Central’s lead to 21-7.

Madison Central responded when quarterback Tyler Smith connected with Hutchins for a 9-yard touchdown with 3:07 remaining, cutting Warren Central’s lead to 21-14.

The Vikings quickly answered. XJ Jackson scored on a 14-yard touchdown run with 25 seconds remaining in the third quarter, and Lee’s extra point gave Warren Central a 28-14 lead entering the fourth.

Madison Central pulled within one score early in the fourth when Ashton Williams broke loose for a 74-yard touchdown run with 11:37 remaining, making it 28-21.

Warren Central responded with another big play through the air. Morgan connected with Layton Lee for a 24-yard touchdown pass with 3:58 remaining, and the extra point stretched the Vikings’ advantage to 35-21.

Scott put the game away in the final minute, scoring his second touchdown of the night on a 2-yard run with 24 seconds remaining. Lee’s extra point produced the final 42-21 score.

The Vikings are now 5-0 and will have a bye week next week.
