BILOXI, Miss. (VDN) — Warren Central High School’s boys and girls swim teams made a big splash at the 23rd Annual Jeanie and Keith Demoruelle Invitational in Biloxi on

Highlights from the meet:

  • Team Titles:
    • Warren Central swept both the boys’ and girls’ championships at the Biloxi invitational.
    • The girls scored 165 points to edge St. Patrick’s (159), while the boys totaled 169 points to top Saint Stanislaus (133) and Gulfport (100).
  • Relay Success:
    • Vikings won five of six relays overall.
    • Girls’ Relays:
      • 200 Medley Relay: Avery Greer, Sicily Smith, Kara Rowe and Addison Billings won in 2:10.31.
      • 400 Freestyle Relay: Greer, Rowe, Billings and Ella Opperman won in 4:10.29.
      • 200 Freestyle Relay: Joniya Scroggins, Ella Opperman and Sicily Smith teamed up to win in 1:54.37.
    • Boys’ Relays:
      • 200 Medley Relay: James McKenna, Jacob Byrd, Ace Orosco and Thomas Kilroy won in 1:55.13.
      • 400 Freestyle Relay: McKenna, Byrd, Orosco and Kilroy also took first in 3:50.74.
      • The only relay loss came in the boys’ 200 freestyle, where they finished sixth out of 18 teams.
  • Girls’ Standouts:
    • Avery Greer won the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.45) — the Lady Vikes’ only individual victory — and placed second in the 200 freestyle; also part of the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
    • Kara Rowe runner-up in 100 backstroke (1:10.56); key relay swimmer.
    • Sicily Smith second in 100 freestyle (1:01.46); member of 200 freestyle relay with Scroggins and Opperman.
    • Addison Billings second in 500 freestyle, third in 200 freestyle; on both medley and freestyle relays.
    • Ella Opperman anchor on the 400 freestyle relay and part of the 200 freestyle relay.
    • Joniya Scroggins part of the 200 freestyle relay victory.
  • Boys’ Standouts:
    • James McKenna won the 100 butterfly (1:00.53) and 100 backstroke (1:03.26); also part of the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays with Byrd.
    • Jacob Byrd swept 200 freestyle (2:07.53) and 500 freestyle (5:56.87); also teamed with McKenna, Orosco and Kilroy on the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay wins.
    • Ace Orosco second in 50 freestyle (24.24) and third in 100 freestyle (54.53); relay contributor.
    • Thomas Kilroy seventh out of 64 swimmers in 100 freestyle (59.30); swam in both winning relays.
