VPD releases crime stats for October

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Vicksburg Police Department Chief Larry Burns released the crime statistics for October at the Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting held Tuesday, Nov. 25. 

Totals for the month included 3,142 logged calls, 1,135 reports made by officers, 333 arrests, 226 warrants were issued, 206 citations, 29 warnings and 7 DUIs. 

The report also showed a breakdown of crimes compared to September’s numbers. 

For the month of October there were no murders, down from one in September. No manslaughters for either month were recorded. The only rape reported was one instance in October which was forcible rape and not statutory. 

There were no robbery cases; however, there were four business burglaries and seven residential burglaries for October. In September there were two business and two residential burglaries reported. 

Burglaries from automobiles reported eight in September- three from secured vehicles and five from unsecured vehicles. October showed improved numbers with only four auto burglaries, all four involving unsecured vehicles. 

There were no carjacking cases for either month, but September showed eight auto thefts, while only two were reported in October. 

There was only one kidnapping reported during either month and the lone instance occurred in September. 

The report also showed 14 aggravated assaults in September and four in October. 

Domestic Violence by far topped the charts with 14 cases in September followed by 24 reports occurring in October.
