Mayfield launches Clothing Closet for area youth
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Alderman T J May field is proud to announce the creation of a new clothing c loset for y oung people in Vicksburg, dev eloped in partnership with the City of Vicksburg Y outh Services. T his new community resource is designed to help local youth access professional and formal attire for school events, job interviews, and other important occasions.
The clothing closet currently includes neckties, dress shirts, suits, blazers, and other items to help young peoplelookandfeeltheir bestforupcomingopportunities.Theinitiativeaimstoremovebarriersforyouth who may need access to quality clothing for milestone moments and personal growth opportunities.
“Our youngpeopledeserveevery chancetosucceedandpresentthemselveswithconfidence,”said AldermanTJMayfield.“Theclothingclosetisaboutself-esteem,preparation,andshowingouryouththat thecommunitybelievesinthem.Wemustteachouryoungpeoplethatlookingthepartis animportantpart of being successful.”
T he program also welcomes community support through donations of gently used or new professional clothing items, particularly neckties and belts. dress shirts, blazers, slacks, shoes, and accessories appropriate for young men and women. Mayfield said this emphasizes his investment in the DREAM program he started, and he hopes this takes off in helping limit youth crime. “Several local businesses, including the City of Vicksburg, will have jobs available this summer, and for some of our youth, this will be their first time interviewing for a job and being in a professional setting. We must continue to invest in our youngpeopleearly.”
Alderman May field thanked City of Vicksburg Y outh Services Coordinator Sh’Vante Wiggins and all community partners who continue investing in the future of Vicksburg’s young people, but stated there are still more items needed.
“Ms.Wigginshasdonea greatjoboffindingresources,andwehaveseveralclothingitemsforyoungmenat the moment, but there is a definite need for professional clothing for young women. We appreciate all donations and look forward to working with all community members to ensure this project is successful. ”
