The Jefferson County School District has been awarded a $30,000 Mississippi Community Oriented Policing Services in Schools grant to enhance safety and security across its campuses.

District officials announced the funding this week, saying the grant will provide additional support for School Resource and Safety Officers while helping strengthen security measures throughout the district.

The Mississippi Community Oriented Policing Services in Schools, or MCOPS, program is designed to help school districts improve campus safety and create secure learning environments for students and staff.

District leaders expressed appreciation to the Mississippi Department of Education and state partners for supporting efforts to improve school safety.

School officials said the funding will help the district continue its commitment to providing safe, supportive and secure schools where students can focus on learning and achievement.

The Jefferson County School District said school safety remains one of its highest priorities as it works to strengthen campuses and support students across the district.
