Claude Lee “Lee Boy” Birdsong

Claude Lee “Lee Boy” Birdsong passed from this life on June 26, 2026, at the age of 55. Though our hearts are broken by his loss, we find comfort in knowing he now rests in the loving arms of his Savior, where there is no more pain, no more struggle, and perfect peace.

As a small child, Lee’s work ethic was instilled in him by his daddy as he worked side by side with him in the hayfields. He went on to work at McHann Railroad Services, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in the Vicksburg District, Gray’s Flying Service, and Palmer Maintenance before becoming self-employed. Lee was exceptionally talented and seemed able to fix just about anything. Whether repairing something broken, working in his garden, or helping someone in need, he took pride in using the gifts God gave him.

Lee loved the Lord, his family, his dogs, and being outdoors. He had a generous heart and was known for helping others without expecting anything in return. More than once, he literally gave someone the shirt off his back when he thought they needed it more than he did.

For many years, Lee fought a hard battle with substance use disorder. It was a battle that demanded more than most people will ever understand. Though that struggle became part of his story, it never defined the man he was. He fought as long as he could, until he simply could fight no more. We choose to remember Lee for the life he lived rather than the way it ended—for his kindness, his generosity, his remarkable talents, and the love he carried for those closest to him. Like all of us, Lee was imperfect. He was flawed, gifted, generous, deeply loved, and worthy of being remembered for so much more than his struggles.

The Apostle Paul wrote, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” We trust that Lee’s race is now complete, his burdens have been laid down, and he has found the peace that escaped him here on earth.

Until we meet again, Lee Boy, rest in the peace of Christ. You fought a HARD battle. Now you are, finally, home. The battle is over, but the war goes on.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lynn Pennebaker Birdsong Strate, and his father, William Austin Birdsong Sr.

He is survived by his son, Lee Austin Birdsong; his brother, William Austin Birdsong Jr. (Paige); his brother, Jon Pennebaker Birdsong (Robyn); his nephews, Colton and Levi Birdsong; and many other family members and friends.

A private graveside service will be held at a future date.
