John Whitfield Erwin

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — 

John Whitfield Erwin passed away on Tuesday, June 23 at his home surrounded by his children at the age of 77. Born and raised in Union Church, MS and had been a resident of Vicksburg for most of his adult life. He retired in 2013 from Anderson-Tully after spending 36 years as a millwright.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Whitfield Erwin and Helen Scott Erwin; two brothers, James Erwin and Pedro Erwin; and a sister, Alice Erwin.

He is survived by his children: John Erwin, Sr., Paula Erwin Traxler, Susan Erwin Murrah, and Brandy Erwin; a sister, Hattie Vines; two brothers, Robert Richardson, and John Herz; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 2 PM to 4 PM on Sunday, June 28 at Fisher-Riles Funeral Home, 5000 Indiana Avenue in Vicksburg. Funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Monday at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at noon at Union Church Cemetery in Jefferson County. Pallbearers will be John Erwin, Sr., Nicholas Saldana, Matt Traxler, Bobby Davis, David Jackson, and Wayne Hambright.
