Jobs in Mississippi reaches new all time high

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Governor Tate Reeves announced that Mississippi’s total nonfarm employment reached a new record high in August with 1,199,800 jobs. Additionally, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell to 3.4%, the lowest since September 2024.

“This has been another historic week for Mississippi,” said Governor Tate Reeves. “On Tuesday, we announced that Hitachi Energy is investing $528 million and creating over 650 jobs in our state – the single largest investment worldwide in company history. Today, we’re announcing the number of jobs in our state has reached another all-time high. It goes to show how much momentum our state has right now. This is Mississippi’s time.” 

On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the G20 Abundance Ministerial in Houston, Texas, Governor Reeves, alongside Trump administration leadership, announced Hitachi Energy is investing $528 million and creating 654 jobs in Copiah County. It is the single largest investment worldwide in company history.

Since Governor Reeves took office, over $86 billion in new private sector investment has been announced, the six largest economic development projects in state history have been finalized, and thousands of high-paying jobs have been created across the state. Mississippi is second in America for growth in job openings since 2020, with hiring demand up nearly 20%. The U.S. state average was -9.6%.

Additionally, the state has had an all-time low unemployment rate multiple times and the second-fastest-growing GDP in the United States. During Governor Reeves’ term, Mississippi was second in the nation for household income growth and had the fourth-fastest-growing per capita income in America.
