Abby Mandarino named Class of 2026 Salutatorian at River City Early College

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — 

Abby Mandarino was named the River City Early College Class of 2026 salutatorian, learning of the honor just 24 hours before graduation.

Dr. Ezi announced Mandarino’s selection during awards night, a moment she said came as a complete surprise.

“I was surprised because I didn’t even think I got top 10, so I was beyond surprised and not expecting it at all, but it was the best night of my entire life,” Mandarino said.

Mandarino graduated with a 5.188 grade-point average and earned a 32 on the ACT. She said she has been a straight-A student throughout her academic career, making only one B.

During her time at River City Early College, Mandarino was heavily involved in extracurricular activities, including cheerleading, student council, student government, Phi Theta Kappa, where she served as vice president, the mock trial team and the gala committee.

She said her favorite class was taught by Mr. Lawson during her freshman year. The class left a lasting impact on her and provided inspiration for her salutatorian speech.

One of the most memorable parts of her achievement was sharing the experience with her best friend, Mina Kaur, who was named valedictorian.

“I’m so glad we got to share this together and complete high school together,” Mandarino said. “I also want to thank my mom and my teachers for helping me get this far.”

Mandarino is the daughter of Susan Mandarino and Amy Poda. She plans to attend the University of Mississippi, where she will major in anthropology.
