Ashley James named Principal at Warrenton Elementary School

In a landmark decision at the Vicksburg Warren School District Board of Trustee meeting on Thursday night, Ashley James, a distinguished Vicksburg native, was officially named Principal of Warrenton Elementary School.

James, who is deeply rooted in the community, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of educational excellence to her new role. A 2020 graduate of William Carey University with a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership, James also holds both a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Education from Alcorn State University.

Her journey in education began in 2008 at Vicksburg Intermediate School, where she quickly made a name for herself, earning the prestigious Teacher of the Year award. This early recognition set the stage for a career marked by dedication and impactful leadership.

For six years, James served as the Lead Teacher at Warrenton Elementary School. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in transforming the school’s performance, elevating it from an F rating to a commendable B rating. Her leadership skills and commitment to academic excellence did not go unnoticed, paving the way for her promotion to Assistant Principal at Warren Central Intermediate School. There, her contributions were equally significant, helping the school improve from an F rating to a C rating.

James is not only a dedicated educator but also a proud mother of two children, Ashton and Aubrey. She is an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., where she continues to foster community and professional growth.

When asked about her recent appointment, James expressed her joy and commitment to Warrenton Elementary. “I am elated to be returning ‘home’ to the school where I began my leadership journey,” she stated. She also expressed her desire to cultivate leaders among students and staff, fostering a culture of empowerment and innovation. Additionally, her goal is to lead Warrenton Elementary in becoming a lighthouse school.
