Brandon Beckett Announced as Millsaps Cross Country and Track and Head Coach

JACKSON, Miss. – Long-time Mississippi athletic director, head coach and strength and conditioning specialist Brandon Beckett will be joining the Millsaps College Athletics staff. On Thursday, he was named the Millsaps College Men’s and Women’s Cross Country and Track and Field Head Coach.
The veteran coach will also assist in the Millsaps College Strength and Conditioning Department.
Beckett joins the Millsaps staff after working the previous five years as the athletic director at Regents School of Oxford. He was also the cross country and track and field coach with the North Mississippi high school program since 2017, totaling 14 state championships.
Beckett helped Regents earn the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) All-Sports Award for the top AA athletic program across the Southeast in 2022-23. The program also placed runner-up for the honor in 2021-22 and 2023-24.
As an athletic director, Beckett helped budget, fundraise, schedule events and facilitate community relations for all 13 athletic teams.
Before becoming an athletic director at Regents School Oxford, Beckett was an eight-time MAIS Coach of the Year across cross country as well as track and field. He led the Regents School of Oxford boy’s cross country team to five consecutive MAIS titles.
In 2021 and 2022, Beckett helmed the girl’s cross country program to a state crowns as well before winning the MAIS Boy’s Track and Field State Championship in 2023 for the first time. Across all four sports, the Lions posted numerous runner-up and third-place performances. On the track, Beckett guided several individual and relay-team state champions.
Prior to his coaching career at Regents School of Oxford, Beckett worked at Champions/ Andrews Sports Medicine in Birmingham as the Director of Sports Performance from 2008-12.
At Champion/Andrew’s Sports Medicine, Beckett designed and implemented strength and conditioning, injury prevention and post-rehab return to play programs for high school, collegiate and professional athletes. Beckett and Champion also worked closely with the University of Alabama, Auburn, University of West Alabama, Troy, UAB and Birmingham-Southern.
From 2003-2007, Beckett worked directly at the college level with Ole Miss as the Senior Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. While at the Southeastern Conference (SEC) school, he designed and implemented strength and conditioning programs for track and field as well as football.
He also assisted in the design and implementation of strength and conditioning programs for all sports, implemented nutrition plans, designed new facilities and conducted an equipment needs analysis.
During the spring of 2001, Beckett began his journey working with multiple sports as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for two years at Illinois State University.
Beckett is a two-time graduate of The University of Mississippi, where he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science (’99) as well as a Master of Science in Health Promotion with an emphasis in Nutrition (’01).
He began his coaching career as a Graduate Assistant at Ole Miss from 1999-01, working primarily with football, track and field, basketball and women’s soccer.
Beckett was also recently an Academic Advisor with the University of Mississippi School of Engineering.
He enjoys helping students find their career path and achieve their goals. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, running and coaching.
Beckett is a native of Bruce, Mississippi. Brandon is married to Amanda, and they have three children, Mary Charles, Collier and Sims.
