Vikings Put Down Callaway 71-56 on Friday
Vicksburg, Miss.-Warren Central High School boys’ basketball team improved to 2-0 in district play after ending Friday night with a 71-56 win over Callaway. Three Vikings scored in double digits in the victory as Jaylon Winters and Roosevelt Harris Jr. both put up 19 points each while Robert Williams came away with 18 on the board.
Winters scored the first seven points of the game for WC as they trailed 17-14 in the first quarter. By halftime Davon O’Neal stepped up and nailed a 3-pointer and the Vikings only trailed by 1-point going into the locker room with a score of 32-31.
Late in the third quarter is when WC took the lead after Willams and Harris both contributed heavily on the board while Winters knocked down his third 3-pointer of the night. The fourth quarter was the most profitable for WC as they added 21 points to their total score with Harris being the main contributor.
O’Neal finished with nine points and Micah Moore scored four.
WC Girls:
The Lady Vikes took a 66-28 loss as Camara Evans led the way with 16 points. Ana Bridges added four points and Ballet Duty hit a 3-pointer. Arielle Ward scored two points and Madison Ward hit a free throw.
The Vikings will host Ridgeland on Tuesday.
Vicksburg High Girls:
The Missy Gators went on the road and took a 59-56 loss to Columbus. Zion Harvey came away with 29 points and nine steals while Cynia Johnson finished with 14 points and eight rebounds. Ny’Keria Watson added five points while Jordan Grace and Jada Erwin both contributed three points. Alanna scored two points.
VHS will host Neshoba Central on Tuesday.
VHS Boys:
The Gators took a 69-58 loss. Mincer Minor IV and Jaquez Jones both scored 15 points each while Jaquez Marshall and Kris Washington added 10. Marlyn Foy scored six points.
