WC took down Clinton 53-48 on Friday
Vicksburg, Miss.-Warren Central High School boys’ basketball team pulled off a 53-48 win over Clinton High School on Friday night. Now that the football players have returned to basketball, the winning has officially started for Head Coach Keith Williams.
The Vikings trailed 11-9 in the first quarter where Roosevelt Harris Jr. contributed the most points for WC early in the game. Deric Gibbs and Jaylon Winters kept the Vikings afloat as they went into halftime down 23-22. Jamani Young and Logan Garner both were instrumental for the Arrows as they stayed ahead.
Coming out of halftime, Gibbs popped a 3-pointer while sophomore Micah Moore stepped up inside the paint. The Vikings maintained to stay close to Clinton on the scoreboard as they would eventually steal the lead midway through the fourth quarter.
A layup by Winters helped WC take a 1-point lead in the fourth quarter. Harris became the light WC needed to clinch the win as he scored eight points in the quarter alone which mostly came from the free throw line.
Harris led with 14 points in last night’s victory and Moore put up 13 on the board. Gibbs finished with nine points and Winters added seven while Robert Williams scored three points. Davon O’Neal and Caleb Lane both finished with two points each.
For Clinton, Jakobe Covett led with 14 points while Garner scored 13 and Young added 11. Christien Cunning also scored in double digits with 10 points for the Arrows.
The Vikings will travel to play Murrah on Tuesday.
