PORT GIBSON, Miss. (VDN)Claiborne County Sheriff Edward Goods issued a public statement Thursday voicing opposition to an event set for Saturday, June 14, at 802 Market Street, citing recent violence and heightened community tensions.

The event, titled ShakeDatAssFest, is being promoted by individuals from Jefferson County and Vicksburg—an arrangement Goods described as especially troubling following a recent fatal incident in Jefferson County.

“This comes in light of the recent tragedy in Jefferson County where a life was lost, and tensions remain high in surrounding communities,” Goods said in the statement. “We have serious concerns about the timing and potential risks associated with this gathering.”

In the past, Claiborne County deputies have helped monitor similar events to ensure public safety. However, Goods said the department is now asking organizers to reconsider in light of ongoing investigations and community grief.

“Be mindful and patient—give Jefferson County authorities the chance to make the necessary arrests so we don’t have a repeat of what happened down there,” the Claiborne County Sheriff said.

Goods confirmed his department would enhance security measures, including checkpoints on both ends of the county.

“We will be adjusting our safety efforts accordingly,” the sheriff said.
