Coach Kelvin “K.C.” Carter Inducted Into Vicksburg Warren School District Athletics Hall of Fame
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Coach Kelvin “K.C.” Carter has been officially inducted into the Vicksburg Warren School District Athletics Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony was held Thursday, where he was one of nine honorees.
“I’m truly grateful to the Hall of Fame committee for this induction,” Carter said.
Carter opened his speech by reflecting on his upbringing in East View Apartments, where he praised his mother and grandmother for shaping him into the man he is today. “They often say that a woman can’t raise a boy to be a man, but those two women did a pretty good job because their son is in the Hall of Fame,” he said.
Carter also expressed gratitude to his former coaches, friends and family, including his wife of 24 years, Stacy Carter.
He was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his achievements as a standout athlete and longtime coach at Vicksburg High School, where he remains the head basketball coach. A three-year letterman at VHS, Carter averaged 16 points per game in 1992 and earned defensive player of the year honors from his team. He played under Head Coach Chris Adamson.
A lifelong Gator, Carter served as an assistant coach for 12 years, helping VHS reach the state championship game twice. In 2018, he became head coach. Since then, at least one of his players has signed a collegiate scholarship every year.
In 2023, Carter reached a milestone with his 100th career victory as head coach. He has also been named the Vicksburg Daily News Coach of the Year three times.
Carter has officially earned his place among the greatest to come through Warren County.
