Comedy classic ‘Some Like It Hot’ comes to The Strand July 8
VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — Some Like It Hot, starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, will be shown Tuesday, July 8 at 7 p.m. at The Strand Theatre, located at 717 Clay St.
Set during the Prohibition era, the 1959 classic follows two down-on-their-luck jazz musicians, Joe and Jerry, who find themselves on the run after witnessing a gangland shooting. Desperate to escape, they disguise themselves as women and join Sweet Sue and her Society Syncopators, an all-female band heading to a beach resort in Florida.
With a pair of shaky wigs and falsetto voices, the duo manages to blend in—until they meet Sugar Kane, a ukulele-strumming singer with a weakness for saxophone players. What starts as a clever getaway quickly unravels as romantic entanglements, mobsters and mistaken identities converge in one of the most beloved comedies of all time.
Tickets are $9 in advance at Highway 61 Coffeehouse and $10 at the door. And for those who like their popcorn hot, the Strand’s is free.
