Disabled Woman Saved by Vicksburg Fire Department

VICKSBURG, Miss. – Just after 10:30 p.m., units with the Vicksburg Fire Department responded to a fire call at 821 Speed Street at the Marshall Apartments.
According to Chief Derrick Stamps, “Upon arrival, the crew could see smoke and was made aware that a disabled person was inside the structure. The firefighters made forcible entry into the structure. Once inside, they found a disabled person who needed to be treated for smoke inhalation. The patient was transported to Merit Health ER. It was determined that a pot had been left on the stove.”

Battalion One, Henry Williams was the senior officer on scene. Engine 6 worked the event. They are Captain Vincent McRaven, Lt. Wesley Whitaker and Private Kaleb Offord. According to Chief Stamps, Captain McRaven was the firefighter who carried the disabled woman in his arms from the apartment to the ambulance.
Chief Stamps went on to say, “I am absolutely proud of the responding units at 821 Speed Street. They are the genuine heroes of this community.”
