VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — The Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation’s free after-school art program, River Kids, returns Thursday, August 21, offering students in grades 1 through 6 a chance to explore their creativity in a guided, hands-on environment.

The 13-week program meets every Thursday from 3:45 to 5 p.m. and is open to all elementary students in the area. Space is limited, and registration is required.

River Kids is designed to help children discover and develop their artistic talents through a variety of techniques, including drawing, painting, collage, ceramics, sculpture, and crafts. Each session is taught by experienced, accredited art educators.

Although the program is free, it does require a full-semester commitment from parents or guardians. Enrollment is first come, first served.

To register, call the Southern Cultural Heritage Center business office at (601) 631-2997 or email info@southernculture.org.

The River Kids program is supported in part by funding from the Mississippi Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts, along with generous support from Southern Cultural Heritage Foundation members, the City of Vicksburg, and other local contributors.
