Former Edward Chief of Police, Louis L. Johnson, Jr has passed
EDWARDS, Miss. – Long serving and former Edwards Chief of Police Louis Lee “BaBa” Johnson, Jr has passed away.
Louis L. Johnson, Jr was born on Friday, March 13, 1953 and passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. He is being remembered in his community for his service to others.
The family said
“With a profound acceptance of God’s will and a heavy heart, we, the Johnson family, acknowledge the loss of our beloved former Chief of Police of Edwards MS, Louis L. Johnson, Jr. He was a dedicated and courageous servant of his community, serving as the longest serving Chief of Police in Mississippi with 38 consecutive years of service.
Chief Louis L. Johnson Jr, also known as Coach BaBa, left an indelible mark on our community through his unwavering commitment, selflessness and bravery throughout his service.
Details of the memorial will be shared by the family in due course.
We ask that you continue to keep the family, friends and colleagues of Chief Louis Lee “BaBa” Johnson in your prayers during this very difficult time.”
Chief Johnson was remembered by Vicksburg law enforcement including Former Vicksburg Chief of Police Walter Armstrong, who said in an online comment, “Chief Johnson was a good man. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said, “I’ve known Chief Johnson since before he was the chief and he’s always been the same man. He cared deeply for his community and made it a point to get to know everyone in Edwards. His love of community extended far beyond law enforcement as was evident in the many years he spent coaching and mentoring the young people of the Edwards area on the baseball diamond and the basketball court. He will be missed by all the people whose lives he touched!”

Funeral Service: Saturday, November 16, 2024, 11:00 a.m., Bolton Edwards Elementary Middle School 9700 I 20 Frontage Rd, Bolton, MS 39041
Interment: Greenhill Cemetery, Edwards, MS 39066
